CBD Oil for PTSD Treatment- News, Facts, Therapy Benefits
Does CBD work for PTSD? As a natural compound, cannabidiol (CBD) has many plusses over traditional pharmaceuticals as part of therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). And a handful of scientific research studies indicate that this may be the case. In the meantime, CBD as a palliative in PTSD treatment is becoming more popular, although primarily to exclusively relying on informal recommendations by medical professionals.

As for the question of efficacy of CBD in PTSD treatment, surprisingly – in some respects, at least – relatively few studies on CBD for PTSD have been undertaken in the USA. Elsewhere, however, study results are fairly compelling. One research survey out of Brazil – which is where most quality studies on CBD oil and THC products have been done, it seems – entitled “Cannabidiol as a Therapeutic Alternative for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: From Bench Research to Confirmation in Human Trials” sums up the attitude of some researchers nicely.
Authored by two professors from different universities in Brazil with results published in the science journal Neuroscience in 2018, the survey ultimately found effective the use of CBD oil for PTSD, and the researchers sought “to highlight the potential of CBD as a treatment for disorders related to inappropriate retention of aversive memories, by assessing evidence from preclinical to human experimental studies.” And whereas most “Current pharmacological therapies for PTSD have been shown to be inefficient and produce considerable side effects,” CBD is generally free of such issues.
Indeed, research published by the National Institute of Health (NIH) in 2019 noted that “Current evidence regarding the use of CBD for PTSD in humans is minimal.” The stud entitled “Cannabidiol in the Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: A Case Series” assessed prior studies and, in a small case study, saw improvement in 91% of PTSD sufferers.
The same study noted that, though certain mechanisms regarding the CBD oil/brain chemistry relationship as well as the precise nature of PTSD remain unknown, the science suggests CBD can trigger the release of serotonin and anandamides, neurotransmitters which can alleviate not only anxiety and mild depression but also mitigate certain memory problems related to PTSD.
