One thorough study on the effects of THC on insomnia was published in the journal Medicines in 2019; some 450 insomnia sufferers took place in the study over two years. Participants were asked to rate the severity of their insomnia on a scale of 1 to 10, and after using cannabis, the average participant’s rating for insomnia dropped from 6.7 to 2.2.
A study published by insurance firm Kaiser Permanente on the effects of CBD on sleep problems and anxiety reported a decrease in anxiety of 79% among the average participants, while insomnia decreased by 66% after a regimen involving 25mg CBD capsules. Other studies and clinical trials have shown that CBD is particularly good in treating sleep disorders among those suffering from PTSD.
CBD oil is available in different concentrations. Since research is ongoing, the exact dose to treat sleep issues may not be fully known. Some trial and error may be required to determine what works best or a holistic medical practitioner may be able to assist before experimentation is necessary.
