Given the popular stereotypes regarding marijuana smokers and the common use of cannabis-derived substances as an appetite stimulant, recommending CBD oil products for weight loss seems a little odd – yet science has shown that CBD can work with the endocannabinoid system in the brain/central nervous system to alter body weight gain and even potentially disrupt the over-accumulation of fat stores.

As far back as 2011, a study published  in Neuroscience Letters demonstrated the potential of CBD to “alter body weight gain, possibly via the CB2 receptor” in laboratory rodents. A study undertaken by the Daegu University (Korea) Department of Biotechnology was “designed to investigate the effects of cannabidiol (CBD), a major non-psychotropic phytocannabinoid of Cannabis sativa, on induction of browning in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.”

In short, the “browning” referred to is a process of replacing “white fat” with “brown fat”; the former is a far denser form of body fat and, if produced by the body in disproportionate amounts, leads to obesity. However, as interesting as the potential of CBD to induce this effect sounds, we shouldn’t expect to see over-the-counter pills devoted specifically to this purpose any time soon.

On the other hand, a simple way to get a regular healthy dose of CBD oil is already readily available: In the words of the immortal Weird Al Yankovic, just eat it. Edible CBD oil may be substituted for other oils in cooking or even without further preparation as in salad dressing. CBD oil can help deliver fatty acids, much needed by the brain, more effectively.

Some medical experts are proponents of a diet rich in high-fat energy sources. Because CBD is a substance which dissolves in fatty oils rather than water, and fatty acids serve as building-block nourishment for human cell membranes themselves; this allows CBD oil to carry along substances than conventional vegetable oils. Thus may CBD oil in healthy food choices ultimately lead to a healthier metabolism which burns fat more rapidly.
